Affordable tips for creating your dream kitchen on a budget. Some great ideas for when you're thinking about your Kitchen Makeover. Great buyers guide to find deals on cabinets, counters, etc.

1. Cabinets: You do not need to replace your cabinets to get the look of a custom kitchen. A few options to look into would be re-facing your cabinets, Painting your cabinets, and/or adding new doors and drawers. If you are happy with the layout of your kitchen and your cabinets are in decent shape, you can look into painting your cabinets. A proper paint job can do wonders for the overall look of your kitchen. If your cabinets are just way too outdated for your taste, look into buying semicustom cabinets at your local cabinet store. You need to be creative and arrange these cabinets so they work best with your application.

2. Counters: Granite and Marble are typically the choice of counters in most updated kitchens. When you are shopping for this type of stone, you should go to a few stone yards and educate yourself on the different types of stone that you want. Ask the stone yard to contact you when they have remnants (left over stone of other projects that cannot be sold). If they have a large enough stone, this may be a good option to get the stone at a bargain price.

3. Appliances: Stainless steel or cabinet matched appliances are what most homeowners want and many would agree that this is what defines high end from budget makeover. Try to wait for the sales, usually in the fall, appliance stores discount their products. Also, try to make the purchase as a package deal in which they discount. Lastly, If you do not mind a scratch or two, ask to buy the floor models (display model) and you can usually pick them up for a reasonable price.

4. Hardware: New cabinet pulls and knobs can add a decorative touch to your kitchen and they do not need to be expensive. A new under mount sink and new plumbing fixtures is a good way to identify some character within your kitchen. There are many different looks you could go for when choosing new fixtures/hardware (traditional, modern, etc.)

5. Backsplash: Add a decorative back splash. Depending on the style you are going for, your backsplash should complement everything in your kitchen. The backsplash should tie your flooring, counters, and cabinets together. Go to the local tile place and see what they have on their inventory.

6. Flooring: If you have wood running throughout your kitchen, the best way to update it would be to refinish them and add a throw rug in front of high traffic areas. The most durable option if you decide to replace your existing floor with tile would be porcelain tile. Porcelain tile is best known for its durability. Unlike ceramic tile, Porcelain tile has the color run through the whole tile so if it gets scratched, it does not show as easily. You have many options when choosing flooring, so it's best to browse the internet/magazines and educate yourself before you go shopping.

Follow some of these tips where applicable and you will be amazed at your savings. What you save on your kitchen remodel you can invest in other areas of the home. Remember in most cases, what you invest in your kitchen you get back.
